Endodontic Treatments

Pulpectomies

We pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive range of endodontic treatments to help our patients achieve optimal oral health. One such treatment that we offer is pulpectomy. A pulpectomy is a dental procedure that involves the complete removal of the pulp tissue from a tooth’s root canal system. This is done in cases where the pulp has become infected or inflamed, and cannot be saved through more conservative treatments like a root canal. During a pulpectomy, our experienced endodontists carefully remove the affected pulp tissue, thoroughly clean the root canals, and then seal them to prevent any further infection or decay. This helps to alleviate pain and other discomfort associated with the damaged tooth, while also restoring its functionality and preventing any further damage to surrounding teeth.

Pulpotomy vs Pulpectomy

Both procedures are commonly performed in dental offices to treat a tooth that has developed an infection or inflammation in its pulp chamber. The pulp is the soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue.

A pulpotomy is a less invasive procedure compared to a pulpectomy. It involves removing the infected or inflamed pulp tissue only from the top part of the tooth while leaving the healthy tissue intact. This procedure is typically recommended for children, as their teeth are still developing and their pulps can recover from mild to moderate damage.

On the other hand, a pulpectomy is a more extensive procedure that involves removing the entire pulp from the tooth, including the roots. This procedure is typically recommended for adults, as their teeth are fully formed and their pulps cannot regenerate.

It’s important to note that both procedures are done under local anesthesia to ensure that the patient is comfortable throughout the process. Additionally, both procedures are typically followed by a root canal treatment to fully restore the tooth’s function and prevent further damage.
